A record setting 55 º¬Ð߲ݴ«Ã½ Tommies were named Canadian Collegiate Athletic Association National Scholars for 2023-2024, recognizing their achievement in sport and in the classroom.

The National Scholar Award is presented to student-athletes who have achieved an academic standing of 80% or higher while maintaining their commitment to varsity athletics. The CCAA National Scholar Award is among the highest honours for student-athlete achievements across Canada.

"To be named a CCAA National Scholar is a significant achievement. It has increased my confidence and highlighted my hard work and dedication in the classroom and on the court, proving that when times are tough, I can handle challenging situations and succeed," said fourth-year student and women's basketball player Alyssa Jeffrey.

"Being a student-athlete has shaped me into the person I am by helping my time management, accountability, and prioritization skills as I balance academics and athletics."

This year's recipients from º¬Ð߲ݴ«Ã½ embody the values of hard work, determination, and discipline, balancing the rigorous demands of both their academic and athletic pursuits.

"Being named a CCAA National Scholar recognizes the hard work that goes into studying and playing high-level sports," said second-year student and men's soccer player Kiran Hollmann-Prichard.

"This recognition also reflects positively on the university and our athletic programs, which I am thrilled to be a part of."

º¬Ð߲ݴ«Ã½ Athletics is home to a proud tradition of athletic and academic success. Our student-athletes compete in soccer, basketball, volleyball, rugby, cross country, and hockey, and we take pride in their holistic development as leaders, scholars, and athletes.

"We are thrilled to see so many student-athletes succeed academically as well as athletically, and I want to share my heartfelt congratulations with the recipients," said Meaghan Donahue Wies, Director of Athletics and Recreation.

"This record number of 55 National Scholars is a testament to their hard work, commitment to personal development, and drive to excel in all aspects of their lives."
