Meaghan Donahue Wies Appointed Director of Athletics at St. Thomas University Â
Meaghan Donahue Wies has been appointed Director of Athletics at St. Thomas University and will begin her new role on October 25.
“Meaghan has significant experience in sports administration and has demonstrated collaborative leadership capabilities in sporting organizations at the regional and national levels,” said James Culligan, Vice-President (Finance and Administration).
“Over her career, she has developed an understanding of the Canadian sport system. Her success in developing and implementing balanced performance programs for athletes—incorporating academics, performance, and wellness—while maintaining a holistic approach for students who participate in recreation activities, was important to the university."
“I am so excited to join St. Thomas University and to return to this beautiful campus after almost twenty years. This role is an incredible opportunity to bring my passions for performance sport, community development, and student-athlete wellness to an already thriving Athletics Department,” said Donahue Wies.
“I am looking forward to leading the strategic development of the department, and working with the team to enhance and expand offerings across º¬Ð߲ݴ«Ã½'s sport and recreation programs,” she added.
For ten years, Donahue Wies worked in athlete services at the Canadian Sport Centre Atlantic, where she also managed Game Plan in Atlantic Canada, a national athlete wellness program. Most recently, she was the executive director of the Fredericton District Soccer Association where she managed programs for 1,500 members. At FDSA, she successfully led operations and fundraising as that organization significantly expanded. She has also been a sport consultant with the Provincial Government and taught in UNB’s Faculty of Kinesiology.
Donahue Wies holds a Master of Business Administration from UNB (Sport and Recreation Management) and a Certificate in Mental Health in Elite Sport from the International Olympic Committee. She is an alumna of º¬Ð߲ݴ«Ã½, graduating with a Bachelor of Arts (Distinction) in 2006. She has been involved in numerous community sports organizations and served on mission staff for Team New Brunswick at the Canada Games and is on the Board of Directors at Sport New Brunswick.
“Our congratulations to Meaghan. I know that she is looking forward to getting to know the coaches and student athletes and building strong working relationships with faculty and staff,” said Culligan.
“I want to thank Eric Moffatt who has been (Acting) Director of Athletics for several months and has been holding down many roles during the start-up of the year. Meaghan will be leading an experienced and dedicated team in Athletics, including staff, coaches, and assistant coaches.”
