Call For Applications: NB Legislative Internship Opportunity
We invite applications for placement in the New Brunswick Legislative Internship Program (NBLIP). The internship will run from January to June 2022.
The NBLIP began in 2020 as a pilot program. Interns act in a non-partisan capacity under the supervision of the Office of the Clerk of the Legislative Assembly to provide research and other assistance to Members of the Legislative Assembly, legislative committees, and to Officers of the Assembly such as the Auditor-General and Chief Electoral Officer.
This is an excellent opportunity to acquire practical knowledge of New Brunswick’s legislative process and the many roles of MLAs. Interns will be involved in public policy development and the mechanisms of political accountability. Interns will gain hands-on experience in the operation of democratic government in New Brunswick.
Interns may also qualify for academic credit for participating in the NBLIP.
Two interns will be selected from across New Brunswick universities. Each will work 20 hours per week from late January to June, 2022. Interns will receive a reasonable stipend. Some duties can be performed remotely while others may require attendance at the Assembly in Fredericton.
A successful applicant will:
- be a third- or fourth-year student;
- major in Political Science or otherwise possess a demonstrated knowledge of the parliamentary legislative process and governmental system;
- possess excellent inter-personal skills;
- be able to take direction, work independently and remotely, manage a variety of tasks; and
- have a strong academic record, and excellent written and oral communication skills.
Ability to communicate in both official languages will be considered an asset.
Applications should include a CV, academic transcript, and a list of three referees with contact information.
Application deadline is October 22, 2021.
